NOVA Journal is a technology and creativity blog created by Yongama Goso, an Information Systems student, emerging software developer, and technology entrepreneur from South Africa.
The blog explores the ideas, tools, and stories shaping technology, business, education, and digital creativity. It focuses on practical, accessible writing about artificial intelligence, software development, entrepreneurship, innovation, skills development, and the changing digital world.
It was created as a space to document learning, share useful insights, discuss new ideas, and show practical projects — combining technology with creativity to make complex topics easier to understand for students, entrepreneurs, developers, and curious learners.
The name NOVA refers to a sudden burst of light: a bright new beginning. The journal aims to highlight new ideas and encourage people to explore what they can build in the digital age.

About Yongama
I am an Information Systems student, emerging software developer, and technology entrepreneur from South Africa. I am interested in using technology, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation to solve practical problems and create opportunities for individuals, businesses, and communities.
My work combines software development, business development, education, and creative digital projects. I enjoy building websites, dashboards, booking systems, database-backed applications, and AI-assisted tools that make information and services easier to access.
I am currently developing my skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET, SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, responsive design, and AI-assisted software development. I also use digital tools to research ideas, plan businesses, and create educational resources.
Beyond coding, I am interested in entrepreneurship, innovation hubs, youth development, digital skills training, content creation, graphic design, and the future of artificial intelligence. I believe technology should be practical, accessible, and relevant to the communities it serves.
NOVA Journal is where I share ideas, projects, lessons, and experiments. It documents my growth as a student, developer, and lifelong learner.

How the website was built
NOVA Journal is a front-end website built with HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. It uses localStorage to store blog posts, bookmarks, comments, newsletter sign-ups, and contact messages in the browser. The FileReader API handles featured-image uploads, which are resized on a <canvas> and stored as Base64 data — so images work without a backend or database.
The project demonstrates responsive design, page navigation, form validation, image handling, search, category filtering, sorting, dark mode, dynamic content rendering, and accessible interface design.
Key features
- Dynamic featured editorial and latest-articles feed on the home page
- Search, topic filtering, sorting, saved bookmarks, and load-more pagination
- A full create-post editor with live preview, validation, and image compression
- Single-article view with breadcrumbs, reading progress, sharing, and comments
- Dark and light themes with the preference remembered between visits
- Graceful behaviour when storage is full, blocked, or an image fails to load
Project purpose
NOVA Journal was developed for the Hex Softwares Web Development Internship — Task 1. It demonstrates planning, designing, developing, and improving a complete blog website using core front-end technologies.
It also represents my growth as an Information Systems student and developer: it let me practise interface design, JavaScript functionality, browser storage, responsive layouts, accessibility, and user-experience decisions.
